Mortgage lending was the highest of 2011 in December with banks and mortgage providers lending £9 billion. Figures from the British Bankers’ Association have shown that lending is up 12% from the same time last year.
Mortgage approval rates for December increased in comparison to November with the festive month seeing 36,171 mortgages approved for house purchases.
The average house price for December however varied little from 2010 figures with Britain’s average house price set at £145,200.
